Artist's Comments

This is a Sphingidae clinging to one of our grapevines in the afternoon light. It was found along the Mid North Coast in New South Wales, Australia on a flood plain not far from the coast.

Thank you very much :D

You're welcome. I absolutely wanted to know what was this beautiful caterpillar. I was sure it belongs to the Sphingidae family (because of the "horn" on its rear) but I wanted to know how was the adult moth. :-)

hi :) i had a chat with the guy who runs that website and he confirmed that it was, indeed, a Sphingidae. :) so you were spot on.
:iconjymsfr:
Yes, it was obviously a Sphingidae. The caterpillars are quite easy to recognize with their horn on the backside. You know, I am very fond of moths and butterflies (did you see my gallery?... ;-)) and I have some knowledge about them so it was not difficult for me to go right to the right place.
Anyway, thanks to you I discovered a new (and beautiful!) species that I did not know. By the way, Australian species are not very well known here. So they are always fascinating.
